Holograms Go Pop...Singularity Is Not Far Off!

A sensation in Japan is Hatsune Miku.  A holographic image of a singer who attracts thousands to concerts al over Japan.

The end result of singularity when it comes to music may be that computers with consciousness will write and perform music!  They will do it with a different consciousness than a human one.  This will bring a whole new genre of art forms.  Japan has already taken a step towards this.

Hatsune Miku is actually a piece of software that a user can program to project holographically a singing girl.  Her words, tone and inflection can be controlled from the software.  A person loads this software in a windows PC and then enters the musical pitches they wish for the singer to sing, enters the lyrics (English and Japanese for now), and then can adjust all kinds of voice inflections, vibrato, etc.  Then the information is processed by the software (produced by Yamaha) and out comes a wave audio file with the voice parts, which can then be mixed with any synthesized or live musical background.  The results are impressive.  The cost of the software is as little as $99.  How the animation is done in the holograph is not clear, but it is all machine produced by algorithms.

This is a sort of machine intelligence.  There are already software that actually write music.  There is no doubt that this marks the beginning of a new era in what computers can do which resembles human creative activity.

We bring you a video of how this Vocaloid software works.  This is a demo of the composition stage before the voice is processed into the final product.  If you cannot see the embedded video, here is the link: http://youtu.be/HPuQMY6hZdw.
